Deborah Gimelson has been in the real estate business for almost two decades. In that time, she has sold numerous townhouses, co-ops and condos, mostly on the West Side and more particularly between the Upper West Side and the West Village, although her knowledge extends into almost every Manhattan neighborhood. Her clientele is made up mostly of people who either make or support culture and ranges from well-known television comics to famous artists to editors-in-chief of publishing companies to CEOs of major corporations, and ranges geographically from the west coast to the UK/Europe to the Far East and back again. Deborahs roots are in Philadelphia, where she grew up in Chestnut Hill, and attended the Miquon School and Germantown Academy. After graduating from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, she worked in a major New York publishing house and from there went on to obtain an M.F.A. in Poetry from Columbia University. She lived in Florence for several years where she taught English and rewrote translations of tourist art books, and is proficient in Italian. On returning to the United States, she had a long and successful career as a freelance art and architecture writer, with articles published everywhere from THE NEW YORK TIMES to ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST. She had an art business column in the NEW YORK OBSERVER for several years. With all this culture behind her, Deborah likes to think both inside and outside the box for her clients. She is never without the time to explain some aspect of the buying or selling process, and her goal is to have her clients and customers prepared before plunging into the real estate world, and to keep a deal moving to completion. Her network of professionals with expertise in mortgages, taxes, renovation, landlord/tenant law, moving, cleaning and even babysitting and dog walking helps keep things percolating until everyone is sitting happily at the closing table. When not doing real estate, Deborah is a proud member of the development committee at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. She hangs out as much as possible with her Yorkie, Poco, goes to the theater, the Chelsea and Lower East Side art galleries and all museums (the Frick is a favorite), is a bit of a foodie (from the best tacos to the finest fois gras) and volunteers at various animal shelters.
